Parcs Nationaux de France has the responsibility of maintaining all the national parks in France. In France, in total there are seven national parks. These national parks cover a total area of 3,710 kmē in central zones. In secondary zones, it covers a total area of 9,162 kmē. These national parks attract many tourists and numbers cross 7 million visitors each year.
Some parks of France are Cevennes National Park, Ecrins National Park, Guadeloupe National Park, Mercantour Park, Port-Cros National Park, Pyrenees National Park and Vanoise National Park.
Cevennes National Park is located in Southern France. It covers the mountainous area of Cevennes. The park was made in 1970 and is located in the departments of Lozere and Gard. It covers some parts of Ardeche and Aveyron. The park is home to the Aven Armand Cave. The mountains and plateaus of Mont Lozere, Mont Aigoual and Causse Mejean are also included in the park. Ecrins National Park is located in the mountainous region in Alps south of Grenoble and north of Gap.
The Mercantour Park was created in 1979. The park attracts many visitors every year. About 800,000 visitors throng this park every year. It covers a total area of 685 kmē. It covers seven valleys: Roya, Bevera, Vesubie, Tinee, Haut Var/Cians and Ubaye.
Port-Cros National Park is located in the Mediterranean island of Port-Cros, east of Toulon. The park was built in 1963. Pyrenees National Park was founded in 1967. This park is located within the French departments of Hautes-Pyrenees and Pyrenees-Atlantiques. Vanoise National Park was created in 1963. This park is located in the Alps. Several ski resorts such as Les Trois Vallees, Tignes, Val d'Isere and La Plagne are located near the park.
