France Newspapers , Periodicals

The daily newspapers of France, once enjoyed the position as the most powerful in the world. At present, there are a total of 81 daily newspapers. Ten national papers cover politics and general news. Ten newspapers are specialized in business news, sports, etc. there are sixty other dailies that cover a particular department or a region.

In present day France, the magazine market is booming and is giving a tough competition to the newspapers of France.

Some popular National Daily Newspapers of France are La Croix, La Tribune, Le Figaro, Le Monde, Les Echos, L'Humanite and Liberation. Some popular regional daily newspapers of the country are Les Dernieres Nouvelles d'Alsace, La Voix du Nord, Le Midi Libre, Le Parisien, Le Progres, Le Republicain Lorrain, Nice Matin, Ouest-France, Sud-Ouest and Le Telegramme de Brest.

In early 2002, in France free newspapers such as Métro, Marseille Plus and 20 Minutes were circulated. Within a short span of time, the free papers matched the circulation of national dailies and gained immense popularity amongst its readers.

The France newspapers have high production costs. It's a sad but true fact that the readership of France's daily papers is very small. It's infact, a matter of concern that the number of regular readers is on a decline.

Les Échos (business news) and L'Équipe (sports news) are two daily papers of France that are running profitably. The weekly television and women interest magazines are widely read with a circulation of about two million. News magazines and business magazines form a considerable chunk of the magazine market. It's interesting to note that within a span of twenty years, the overall sales of magazines has increased by 65%. Several new magazines are brought out each year.

Jeune Afrique-l'intelligent (an independent newsmagazine), Le Monde des Religions (bimonthly magazine), Le Point (Conservative newsmagazine), L'Expansion (biweekly business magazine), L'Express (Centrist newsmagazine), Magazine Littéraire (monthly literary magazine), Marianne (weekly newsmagazine), Paris Match (Mass-circulation weekly magazine), Politis (alternative left-wing weekly magazine) and L'Autre Afrique (independent newsmagazine) are some popular magazines of France.
