McLaren is one of the famous F1 teams that was founded by Bruce McLaren. Following the example of Jack Brabham, Bruce McLaren formed his own team in 1963 under the name of McLaren Racing Limited.

- 1970 – Bruce McLaren died, while test-driving Can-Am sports car.
- 1976 – James Hunt participated in the drivers' championship and defeated Niki Lauda.
- 1985-1986 – Allain Prost, one of the famous McLaren racers, won consecutive drivers' championships.
- 1988 – Ayrton Senna won the championship after defeating Allain Prost, his team mate.
- 1989 – Allain Prost won back the championship from Ayrton Senna.
- 1990 – Senna acquired the title once again and retained it till the next year.
- 1998 – McLaren team won the constructors' championship.
- 2000 – David Coulthard lost the drivers' championship.
- 2002 – The team could not acquire the title.
- 2002 – McLaren was pushed to the 3rd position. David Coulthard occupied a fifth position in the drivers' championship.
- 2003 – Kimi Raikkonen lost to Michael Schumacher in Japan.
- 2004 – Kimi Raikkonen emerged as the winner in Belgium.
- 2005 – McLaren missed the constructors' title due to the unreliability of MP4-20. Kimi Raikkonen was declared the runner-up in the drivers' championship.
- 2006 – McLaren occupied a third position in the championship. Juan Pablo Montota joined NASCAR.
- 2007 – The team won six Grand Prix. They had to pay a fine of $100 million for profiting from Ferrari's confidential data.
