BMW Sauber F1 Team




BMW Sauber F1 Team is one of the leading contenders in the 2008 Formula One races. After a racing beginning in 2006, the team is geared to produce excellent results in the upcoming Formula One races.

BMW Sauber F1 Team was formed in the latter half of 2005, when the reputed German car manufacturers,

BMW bought the former Sauber Formula One Team. In its debut year, the team finished in the fifth position and scored 2 podium standings. BMW Sauber F1 Team has its offices in Munich in Germany and at Hinwil in Switzerland.

Team Members:
BMW Sauber F1 Team has announced its esteemed drivers for the 2008 Formula One racing competitions. The team will be represented by Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld.

Powered Engineering:
The team uses the F1.08 chassis. It uses its engine from the mother concern, BMW. The tyres are provided by Bridgestone Potenza.

History:
The roots of the team can be traced back to the establishment of the first car by Peter Sauber in 1970. The driver participated in auto racing competitions in the 1970s and 1980s. It team later made its appearances as the Mercedes-Benz works team, which won the World Sportscar Championship and 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1989. It successfully defended its World Sportscar Championship title in the 1990.

Formula One Phase:
The Sauber team entered the Formula One Series in collaboration with Mercedes in 1993. It was able to secure sixth position in the constructors' championship in its debut year and finish the race in Formula One. The partnership with Mercedes raptured in 1994. In the following year, the team was able to secure its first podium finish with Heinz-Harald Frentzen finishing in the third position at the Monza Grand Prix. Successes poured in with Johnny Herbert hauling in the 3rd position at the Monaco Grand Prix in 1996 and his teammate, Heinz-Harald Frentzen securing the 4th position. The team finished in the 7th position with its wins in the constructors' championship. In 1997, Johnny Herbert of Sauber team is able to secure 3rd position in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The team witnesses a mechanical problem in the 2000 Brazilian Grand Prix with the failure of the rear wing of both the cars. The team enjoyed its best season in the 2001 constructors' championship in which it was able to secure the 4th place. A comparable phase arrives in the 2003 season when the team wins the 6th position in the constructors' championship and also takes a lead in the Formula One series.

BMW Takeover:
In June 2005, Peter Sauber announces his retirement from the position of Team Principal, succeeding the negotiations with car manufacturing company, BMW. The new BMW Sauber F1 Team secured the 5th standing in its first campaign in 2006. The older team mate, Jacques Villeneuve was replaced mid season by Robert Kubica who won the Italian Podium. The score is coupled with Nick Heidfeld's Hungarian result. In the 2007 Formula One Series, BMW Sauber F1 Team emerges as one of the most reckoning teams apart from Ferrari and McLaren.

At the eve of the 2008 Formula One Series, the in-house team prepares itself to take a further step as a reckoning contender of the dominant teams.
