U.S.A. Grand Prix is an event that has been shrouded with controversy right from its inclusion in the Formula One racing calendar in 1959. There have been many changes in venues of this nearly century old event. Extremely poor attendance to the event in 1991 in Phoenix led to U.S.A.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway is a 4.19 km. long infield track that runs clockwise, unlike most other Formula One tracks circuits in the U.S.A. Michael Schumacher has been the most consistent winner of the U.S. Grand Prix in the recent years, winning it for five times, including four consecutive wins from 2003 to 2006.
In the Indianapolis years after 2000, the U.S.A. Grand Prix has witnessed some incredible situations. The most striking of them was what happened in 2005 when only three teams started with Bridgestone tires, after seven teams withdrew from the race after the formation lap, following a row with Michelin tires. The entire event was demeaned into a charade. However, the very next year, on June 2, 2006, the event went on smoothly with the brand new sensation from Britain, Lewis Hamilton, winning the race for his McLaren-Mercedes team.
