China features not only one of the newest, but also the most expensive
Formula One circuit in the world. A staggering 240 million US $ was spent to build the 5.45 km. long
Sanghai International Circuit. Chinese Grand Prix is held towards the end of the
Formula One session, thus generating possibilities of great races that often decide sessions' champions.
Sanghai International Circuit is an architectural feat produced by Hermann Tilke and Peter Wahl. The circuit is shaped like the Chinese alphabet 'Shang' signifying 'high and 'above'. Even though it has held only three races till date, the Sanghai International Circuit has already caught everybody's attention due to the wonderful amalgamation of nature and technology in its production.
The track provides not only great opportunities to display one's driving skill through the wonderful acceleration and deceleration through the winding passes, it also provides great open runs for the drivers to speed up and overtake. The wonderful Grandstand provides watching space for many viewers at the same time. The great crowd that the event draws attests the growing popularity of the game in a venue as new as China.
Although relatively young, Chinese Grand Prix has already earned a place in history by being the circuit where Michael Schumacher recorded the last championship win of his long and illustrious career.
