Half of the Silverstone Circuit is located at Northamptonshire while the other half is at Buckinghamshire. Both the portions of the track are almost equidistant from Northampton and Milton Keynes. The Grand Prix circuit of Britain consists of 17 runs and measures to approximately 5.14km in length. Michael Schumacher of Ferrari has the credit of bagging the fastest lap record in 2004.
The first official Grand Prix was held here in 1950, which was won by Guiseppe Frina. Apart from Silverstone some other famous Grand Prix circuits of Britain are Anglesey, Brands Hatch, Cadwell Park, Donington Park, Goodwood, Knockhill and Lyden. To check high speed going beyond controllable limit and to avoid any type of accidents, the management has set up certain speed breakers at Woodcote in 1987 and in 1992 a couple of such speed breakers were set up between Farm and Woodcote.
In 2006 the British Grand Prix was won by F. Alonso of Renault, while in 2005 it was won by Montoya of McLaren Mercedes. In 2004 Schumacher of Ferrari bagged the title, and Barichello of Ferrari won the Grand Prix in 2003.
