Manama, the capital city of Bahrain, is situated on the northern fringe of the peninsular island. The city is presently the most sought after destinations, as it shall soon host the most revered motorsport event, the 2008 Formula One Championship.

History and Geography:
Manama was initially a colony of Portugal till 1602 when it was conquered by the Persians. In the latter half of the 18th century, the Al-Khalifa dynasty emerged as one of the powerful rulers of the region. Manama gained the status of a free port in 1958 and was declared as the capital of Bahrain in 1971. Placed in the northern fringe of the peninsular island, the city is characterized by leveled land. The city is dominated by arid climatic features. The nearest air terminal, Bahrain International Airport lies on the other side of the causeway in the island of Al Muharraq.
