The whole system of racing was not organized in the way it is today.
The first ever motor race was held in Paris where the drivers had to reach Bordeaux from Paris in 1895. the most important racer of that period was Fernand Charron. However, the first race, which used the term “Grand Prix”, was held in France in 1901 and won by Le Mans who drove a Renault. Gradually Renault's supremacy was replaced by Mercedes, which was gigantic in structure. This car was used in the French GP.
