Formula One 2005

Formula One 2005 started with the most vigorous changes in the driver's line-up. Not more than seven drivers were driving for the same team. It also featured the rise of Renault with vengeance with Fernando Alonso behind the wheels. His spectacular performance brought an end to Schumacher's virtual reign for five seasons.

Formula One 2005 was a long season, featuring as many as 19 races, more than ever before. It also featured two of the hottest grand prix ever, with the mercury soaring to record heights at Malaysia and Bahrain. The Formula One 05 season commenced on March 6 with the Melbourne in Australia, and saw Renault immediately leaving a mark by winning the race with Giancarlo Fisichella behind the wheels. Thereafter, the entire season was a dominated by Renault who emerged as the top maker with 191 points. Alonso was the best driver with 133 points. The young Kimmi Raikonnen was the second-best, driving for McLaren-Mercedes.

The sharp drop in the performance of Ferrari was noteworthy after its wonderful performance in the previous season. The Formula One 2005 season also featured certain changes in the rules of racing, especially as far as qualifying was concerned. Moreover, there were no tire changes during the pit stops.
