The Formula One 2004 season is marked by the record-winning performance of Michael Schumacher. It also saw the inauguration of two new events at Bahrain and China, along with two newly built GP circuits in Sakhir and Sanghai. Formula 1 2004 commenced at Melbourne, Australia on March 7, with Michael Schumacher making the chequered flag before anybody else and Ferrari emerging as the sure top constructor.
Formula One 2004 saw many changes in the drivers' line-up, in the beginning of the season as well as towards in the middle of the season. However, there were no team changes. Heinz-Herald Frentzen detached himself from Sauber to join DTM alongside his fellow ex-F1 drivers, Mike Hakkinen and Jean Aleski. Ford announced their inability to enter the F1 circuit through their Jaguar team following massive cost-cutting exercise. The Jaguar team finished the season as the Red Bull Racing, after being bought by Red Bull.
It was, however, the genius of Michael Schumacher that stood out throughout the Formula One 04 season. Winning 13 races, he created a new world record. Following his spectacular performance along with team-mate Rubens Barrichello who ended second, Ferrari emerged as the leading constructor. The poor performance of big names like Williams and Mc Laren were also a part of the Formula One 2004 season.
