US Virgin Islands Flag

Introduction
The Virgin Islands, U.S. flag was officially approved in 1921. The ensign comprises a modified edition of the Great Seal of the United States connecting the letters V and I (signifying Virgin Islands). There is an eagle with a laurel stem in one talon and three darts in the other talon, symbolizing the three main atolls: St. John, St. Thomas, and St. Croix. Furthermore, the ensign has five shades: green, representing the mountains; yellow, symbolizing the flowers and different features of the region; blue, symbolizing the waters; white, portraying the clouds; and red, which stands for love. There is also an overlaid badge of six white and seven red perpendicular bands under a blue pane on the chest of the eagle.

History of Virgin Islands Flag
The perception or plan of a US Virgin Islands ensign originated with the governance of Summer Ely Whitmore Kitelle, the Rear Admiral. He was appointed as governor of the territory on April 26, 1921. Whitmore Kitelle came to Percival Wilson Sparks and captain of the Grib, Mr. White and discussed with them for proposals for a layout of the banner. Wilson Sparks, an artist, made a rough layout. Subsequently, Sparks shifted it to a deep cotton substance. After this, he told his spouse Grace and her sister Blanche Joseph to stitch the layout.


The US Virgin Islands flag was officially approved on May 17, 1921. The design was derived from the official emblem of the US, the Great Seal.
