Gambia Flag
The flag of Gambia is used both as the ensign and national flag of the country. It comprises five parallel horizontal bands - the red band at the top and the green band at the base are equally broad.
Introduction
The blue band in the center of the ensign is edged on the upper side and base by white bands that have the same breadth. The shades are disconnected by the white lines. The red band at the upper side represents the sun and the savannah grasses. The blue band under the red represents the Gambia River, which runs across the country.
The green band stands for the land, farming operations, and the greenery of the country. The white stripes symbolize accord, harmony, and transparency of the people of Gambia.
Protocol
Since the approval of the national tricolor of Gambia on February 18, 1965, the Government of Gambia uses the flag during each and every national event.
History
The ensign was approved on February 18, 1965 when the country achieved absolute freedom from the United Kingdom. The ensign of Gambia has no political foundation.
