The flag of Botswana consists of a light blue base with a black horizontal stripe through the middle of it. The colors on the National Flag of Botswana are similar to that of Botswana's coats of arms.
The blue stands for water; the white and black alternate stripes illustrate the ethnic harmony of the country and the liberal nature of society as well. The stripes are inspired by the skin of the zebra, the national animal of Botswana.

The stripes are in a ratio of 9:1:4:1:9.
