Finland Lake



Finland lake is often considered to be one of the prime attractions of tourists. Finland is the abode of thousands of lakes. In Finland, a water body with standing water that spreads over more than 5 ares is called a lake. The number of Finland lake amount to around 187, 888 approximately. An area of 100 square kilometers easily contains at places around 1000 lakes in Finland.

Saimaa is the largest lake in Finland followed by Inari and Paijanne. These three lakes extends over more than 1000 square kilometres approximately. Saimaa created in the Ice Age by the continental ice sheet is a freshwater lake. Eastern and southern France are the drainage basin of Saima. There are about 14,000 islands in the drainage area of this lake thereby showing the labyrinth it weaves in the expansive stretch of its aquatic body. Lake Saimaa, the countryside surrounding it and the Saimaa canal has considerably boosted the tourism of Finland.

Lake Paijanne, is one of the most beautiful lakes of Finland .Lake Inari, which is often known as the Finnish Pond District or Lampi-Suomi has the largest density of lake number. The Municipality of Inari has 12 lakes that extend over more than 10 square kilometres. The Municipalities of Kuhmo follows with 11 such lakes, Kuusamo with 10 and Posio with 7.
