Finland Basketball



The Finland national basketball team represents Finland basketball in international competitions. In the year 1939 Finland first participated in the Euro basketball championship, in which it lost with a point difference of 70-541.Their next performance was in the year 1951 in Paris and finished third. After that they had success in the classification round one and round two games. Ultimately they finished ninth out of 18 teams.

In 1953 the Finland Basketball team again participated in the Euro basket championship in Moscow. They finished fourth out of five teams in the preliminary round. In the first classification round they played a good game by winning three and loosing only one. Finally they finished in the 12th position out of 17 teams.

In 1955 championship the Finnish team had a hard luck because they lost all matches in the qualifying rounds. However, in the classification round they fought back and finished tenth out of 18 in the tournament. Finally in the year 1957 championship in Sofia they finished third in the prelims and came 11th in the overall tournament.

Basketball in Finland is one of the most popular sports. Finland basketball team is playing a real good game in the present time and is hopefully showing positive signs to make a mark in the international status. Some famous basketball players of Finland are Hanno Mottola, Petteri Koponen, Antti Nykanen and Aki Ulander.
