Finland Music

The people of Finland are musically inclined by nature. Finland music could be classified into folk music, classical music and the popular contemporary music.

Finland music is influenced by traditional Finland culture and also by musical trends from outside the country. The folk music of Finland carries strong influence of traditional Karelian Finnish tunes. The Karelian heritage of Finland is the traditional source of many folk music in the country. It is an aggregation of Finnish beliefs and myths. Nordic folk music traditions are practiced in the west of Finland. The northern part of Finland has its own brand of traditional Finnish music. Sami music is the traditional music in the northern part of the country.

Contemporary Finnish music is an eclectic mix of music sourced from other countries laced with Finnish sensibilities. Modern music in Finland comprises various music subclasses like Rock, Pop, Jazz, Hip Hop and Heavy Metal. The term 'Suomirock' is used for the nomenclature of Finnish Rock music. The lyrics of the songs are written in the Finn language and also in English. This is done to increase the commercial acceptance of the songs. The Republic of Finland has an excellent classical music scene. Renowned Finnish classical composers like Mikko Franck are popular throughout the world.
