Finland Cinema



Finland Cinema has already made a great name in international world of films and documentaries. The history of Finnish Films is fascinating. Cinema of Finland dates back to its root in 1907. ‘Salaviinanpolttajat’ or ‘The Moonshiners’ was the first Finnish feature film. There is almost no incident of Finland Cinema before 1904. The first ever Finland Cinema is known as ' Novelty from Helsinki: School youth at break', though the moviemaker is not known. K. E. Stahlberg, an engineer by profession, founded Atelier Apollo, the first Finnish cinema company, in 1906.

Finland Cinema has been stable in performance and popularity since 1998. Viewers' rating has not gone down within these years. It was 2002 when ‘The Man without a Past’, a film by Aki Kaurismaki was awarded the Grand Prix at the film festival of Cannes. There was a documentary film 'Three Rooms of Melancholia', based on Chechnyan children, in 2004 that received awards in more than 20 festivals. The film was directed by Pirjo Honkasalo.

Along with Finland Cinema in its general course, animation has taken a new place in the industry. The Emperor's Secret, an animation film was of full length. This political satire was made by Riina Hyytia in 2006. As for the growing trend in Finnish films, Genre based, online-based and animations are playing competitively in world cinema. Finland Cinema is commercially potential and innovative in content.
