Finland History

Finland history is very interesting and dates back to ancient times. The historical background of Finland provides a solid base to the rapidly developing economy of the country. A good and solid historical background acts as a backbone for any civilization and same is applied to Finland too.

Archeological evidences have proved that there were signs of human civilization in Finland about 100,000 years ago. From the 12th and 13th century itself, Finland made its solid place on the world map, known for the various interesting crusades and for building huge forts. In the late 15th and 16th century, Finland was under the dominant rule of Sweden, which was then considered to be a super power.

In 1808-1809, in the Finnish war, Sweden lost to Russia and Finland was also taken away from the domain of Sweden. Finland was made into an autonomous body with an independent legislative system. After gaining an autonomous status, Finland began to make considerable development in the field of industry and even coined its individual currency.

The history of Finland does not end here. In 1917, the year of the Russian Revolution, Finland declared itself as an independent nation and Finnish independence was granted on 6th December, 1917. Finland history has witnessed both the world wars and has made a deep impact on both these world events. Though Finland was not in good terms with Russia after the Second World War, but both the countries signed a friendship treaty to maintain cordial relations.
