Helsinki University of Technology or TKK was established in 1849. However it took almost a span of 60 years to be considered as a university. Helsinki University of Technology shifted to the Otaniemi campus in 1966. The university was founded on according to the orders given by the Grand Duke of Finland. At present, the campus of Helsinki University of Technology is located at Otaniemi in Espoo.
Almost ninety Degree courses are on offer at the Helsinki University of Technology having the capacity of more than 15000 students. At the university, Masters as well as other degrees are offered to students coming from different parts of the country. Along with that there are other special degrees like landscape architect, Engineer's degree, Doctor of Technology and the Licenciate of Technology.
The Technical University of Helsinki has set a world record with its Low Temperature Lab. Among other notable achievements, this Helsinki University is renowned for its teaching, wood processing, mobile communications and the invention of the commercialized synthesis of camphor by Gustaf Kompaa. The nobel laureate Artturi Virtanem also worked as a faculty member at TKK.
Apart from the traditional courses, The Helsinki University of Technology offers degree programs on Architecture, Chemical Technology, Communications Engineering, Geomatics, Forest Products Technology, Real Estate Economics and Transportation and Environmental Engineering. International Masters degree courses are offered in Electrical Engineering, Micro- and Nanotechnology, Communications Engineering and Bioinformatics.
