Industrialization started off in Finland during 1860s but the speed of development was slow. In the mid 1960s industry overtook forestry and farming both as the employer. The metal industries let to
the development of the economic scenario of Finland after the war. The late 1950s witnessed an innovative and efficient metal working sector in Finland Metal.

The Finland Metal sector continued to prosper throughout the 1960s and the 1970s. It had an average annual growth rate of 6 percent which was higher than the other industrial sectors in Finland. The metal sector in Finland responded quite well in the 1970s era and gave a strong competition globally. The metal sector in Finland was divided by the Finnish analysts into four divisions' viz. basic metals, transport equipments, machine building and electrical equipments. The metal sector continued to be Finland's leading industrial sector.

In the beginning of the twentieth century the metal industries in Finland started employing approximately 10,000 people. Earlier the major ingredients of the metal industry were small steam boats, bridges, locomotives, railroad structures, machinery required for forestry and agriculture. In the present century the metal sector of Finland employs around 215,000 people.

The metal production in Finland is persistently on the rise. Between the periods of 1980 to 2002 metal manufacture doubled. The industries in Finland give very much importance to the metal manufacturers. Around the year in Finland, 500,000 kilos of metal are produced every hour. From this metal only, the products, which are used in the daily basis like cars, cycles, washing machines, refrigerators, ships, steel structures and coins, are being manufactured.
