Helsinki Stock Exchange is also known as Helsingin Porssi in Finnish. The Helsinki Stock Exchange is a part of OMX since 3rd September 2003. The official name given to the Helsinki Stock Exchange is OMX Helsinki. The first transaction at the Helsinki Stock Exchange took place on 7th October 1912 and since then it has become a 'free form' financial association. However since 1984, the Helsinki Stock Exchange has become a cooperative owned mostly by banks and traders.
The Helsinki Stock Exchange was transferred to a digital system called HETI or the Helsinki Stock Exchange Automated Trading and Information System. This system enabled the even the remote traders to carry out trading along with those in the trading rooms. Again in 1995 the cooperative got transformed into Helsingin Arvopaperiporssi, that is, a Limited Liability Company. Finally in 1997-98, the Helsinki Stock Exchange became the popularly known HEX. When the Helsinki Stock Exchange gave birth to the HEX, it brought with itself Finnish Derivative Exchanges.
In the year 1998, Arvopaperikeskus and HEX merged to form the Helsinki Exchanges Group Plc. The most important years in the history of Hex were 2001-02, when it acquired the shares of the Riga Stock Exchange and the Tallinn Stock Exchange.
