Surfing Fiji




Fiji is encircled by reefs and first rate surf. Surfing Fiji is wild and adventurous. There are several resorts that provide surfing facilities to the tourists who visit Fiji. Comprising more than 300 islands Fiji has a lot many breaks, some of which are used while many remain unexplored. A well equipped boat, a map and sufficient amount of time is required to cover all the breaks.

Fiji surf is exciting and superb. For surfing one needs several equipments like surfboards,body boards, helmets, rash guards and booties. Some breaks in Fiji are for the amateurs, some for better surfers and most for the experienced ones. A number of resorts in Fiji provides for surfing in the Fiji islands. Waidroka is a main island resort that specializes in surfing. It operates trips to surfing spots in Fiji like 'World Famous Pipe", "Resorts Left", "Serua Rights" etc. The Batiluva beach resort is another resort that provides on of the fascinating surfing destinations in Fiji.

Legendary Fiji surfing spots include 'Cloud Break" and 'Swimming Pools" near the Tavarua resort. But these are for the rich. Reasonable surf camps of Fiji are located on the island of Viti Levu and Kadavu. These spots have very little crowd and provide good surfing. Surf camps are located on Yanuca island also. Natadola beach is suitable for body surfing. The largest breaks are present in Sigatoka though here one has to be careful of the undercurrents which are quite risky.

The best time to surf is from April to December. Warm and clean water, a lot of surf, less crowd and mesmerizing scenic beauty make Fiji an ideal surfing ground. Accessibility and tides are significant factors that should be taken into account while surfing in Fiji especially because Fiji is home to the third largest barrier reef of the world. But there is nothing more sensational than surfing the Fiji reefs.
