Fiji Hindustani




Hindustani is another official language of Fiji and its popularity is due to the majority of the Indians residing in different regions of Fiji. The language of Hindustani is so popular that it's well spoken amidst the people of South Asian Diaspora and their descendant's.
The constitution of Fiji has given official status to the Fiji Hindustani along with the Bau Fijian and the English language and three of them form the official Fiji language. The descendent's of Fiji Hindustani generally came from the eastern form of Hindustani known as "Awadhi" and also from the "Bhojpuri" counterpart. The entire Indo - Fijian community speaks the Hindustani Fiji language and it constitutes approximately 38.1% of the total population.

Fiji Hindi is a mix of Hindi dialects. The Indian laborer's came to the Fiji Island from the eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and they spoke Hindi language mainly and it leads to the establishment of the Hindustani language in Fiji. Sooner then the Fijians received a language of Fiji Hindustani and it is the composition of Hindi along with the Fijian language and English.

Fijian Hindustani has got no formal recognition and it's not even used in the Fijian education system or in their religious ceremonies but it's the official language of Fiji under the Constitution of Fiji. Recently it was decided that the University of the South Pacific start offering courses in the Hindustani language and the Hindustani seems to grow more in the near future of the south Pacific.
