Population of Estonia

The population of Estonia includes most of the people living in this European nation. The people of the country are either of an Estonian background or have migrated from some other country. The population of Estonia, according to the 2000 census, stood at 1,376,743. The estimation of the 2007 census sets the Estonia population at 1,342,409.

Estonia seems to be a land of diversity, which unites people from different origins under a single flag. The population of Estonia is a combination of people from different parts of the country. They come from distinct backgrounds and represent completely different cultures. The country also hosts people from several other countries, who have come and settled down in Estonia. Some of the countries, from which Estonia has the maximum number of immigrants, are as follows:
  • Russia
  • Belarus
  • Finland
  • Ukraine
However, citizenship to the immigrants is not easily granted. The people, who have come to the country before 1940 and settled down here, are granted citizenship. However, the knowledge of the Estonian language is also set as a scale for granting the citizenship of Estonia.

Among the people of Estonia, 16% are below the age of 16 and 15% are over 65 years of age. The population of Estonia is enough to have a population density of 116 persons every square kilometer.
