The position of the party underwent drastic change after the merge. ResPublica hardly received any support from public before 2006 and Pro Patria witnessed the fall of their governing coalition. The similar ideologies of the two party played a major role in their decision of unification. On April 2006 these parties decided to merge themselves and it officially occurred during 4th June 2006. The name previously suggested by the parties Eesti Eest was rejected to form Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica, Estonia.
The election of 2007 did not give the party an opportunity to rejoice as the results were not up to the mark.
