Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica

Pro Patria Union and Res Publica, the two conservative political parties in Estonia merged to form the party of Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica. This merged party came into being on 4th June, 2006. The party which consisted of two party leaders and two distinct boards unified under the same board and leader in the year 2007. The Mart Laar, the main candidate of Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica became the chairman of the party.

The position of the party underwent drastic change after the merge. ResPublica hardly received any support from public before 2006 and Pro Patria witnessed the fall of their governing coalition. The similar ideologies of the two party played a major role in their decision of unification. On April 2006 these parties decided to merge themselves and it officially occurred during 4th June 2006. The name previously suggested by the parties Eesti Eest was rejected to form Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica, Estonia.

The election of 2007 did not give the party an opportunity to rejoice as the results were not up to the mark.
Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica party in Estonia received about 17.9% of the votes. This only reserved 19 seats in the parliament of Estonia.
