Estonian Reform Party

Estonia is a democratic country with a multi party system. Estonian Reform Party is a member of European Liberal Democrat and Reform Party. Estonian Reform Party became the member of the Liberal International since the year 1996. The leader of the party is Andrus Ansip.

Reform Party of Estonia ideologically represents the libertarian policy of economists like Friedrich von Hayek and Milton Friedman. The main aim of the party is to eliminate the dividend tax and to reduce the income tax from 22% to about 18% by the year 2011. The party also opposes VAT and corporate tax on the reinvested income.

Several members of the Estonia Reform Party holds important position like Andrus Ansip became prime Minister in April 2005 and the members of the party are the members of the cabinet. Urmas Paet, who is the member of the party is a famous cabinet member.

In the year 2007, the party received about 27.8% of the total votes and gained 31 seats in the legislature of the country, which was a net gain of 12 seats from the previous year.
The Reform Party in Estonia has come under the coalitions with different parties like:
  • 1995 to 1997 with Estonian Coalition Party
  • March, 1999 to December, 2001 with Pro Patria Union and People's Party Moderates
  • January, 2002 to March, 2003 with the Estonian Centre Party
  • March 2003 to March, 2005 with Res Publica and People's Union
This party's contribution to the politics of Estonia is immense, especially, in the conservative fiscal policy of the country.
