Estonian Centre Party

Estonian Centre Party was founded in the year of 12th October in 1991. Estonian Centre Party is the centrist and social liberal party. The party is a member of European Democrat and Reform party. It collaborated with Estonian Pensioners party in the year of 2005 and became the party with about 9000 members. The chairman of the Estonia Central Party is Edgar Savisaar. Mailis Reps and Enn Eesmaa are the vice chairman of the party.

The party proclaims itself to be the middle class liberal party and aims to form a powerful middle class in Estonia. The party also supports the moral enterprises.

This party over the years has witnessed several ups and downs. The significant moments of the history of the party include:
  • A candidate of the party, Siiri Oviir ran for the presidency in 1996
  • Another party candidate Kreitzberg ran for the presidency in the year 2001
In the parliamentary election of 2007, the central party of Estonia received 143,528 votes which is about 26.1% of the total votes. They gained 29 seats, a gain of one seat compared to the 2003 elections. In 2001 Edgar Savisaar was involved in the "tape scandal". Some of the members even formed a different party and the party was forced to move to the opposition. The party has come a long way since then. This party is now the largest opposition party and the second largest party in Parliament of Estonia.
