Estonia Reformation Period

The history of the country of Estonia began when the settlement began in Estonia from around 2000 B.C. Reformation period in Europe began in the year 1517. Martin Luther was the pioneer in bringing the reformation in Europe. Estonia Reformation Period resulted in changes in many of the old ideas.

Estonia Reformation Period gave the space for transformation of politics, religion. During the reformation period of Estonia, the country was divided among the Sweden and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. In the year 1561 there was the Livonian War and the northern part of Estonia was under the control of Sweden and the southern part was under Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth control.

During the year of 1561 Estonia positioned itself underneath the Swedish rule as to obtain security from Poland and Russia. During the year 1625, the Estonian mainland came completely under the regulation of Sweden.

By the year 1629, in the war between Polish soldiers and Sweden, Livonia was conquered from the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Swedish Livonia is the present day southern Estonia and the northern part of today's Latvia. Thus, the Estonia Reformation Period has a big influence in the shaping of modern Estonia.
