Estonia Mineral Resources

The Estonia mineral resources chiefly include oil shale. Besides, the other mineral resources of Estonia are dolomite, phosphorite, limestone, peat and coal. But the mining of phosphorite in Estonia has been stopped now.

Among all the mineral resources in Estonia, oil shales are the most important one. Estonia has earned a huge name in its oil shale resource. Phosphorites are found in huge deposits. Phosphorites that are found in the country are of extremely good quality. There are reserves of peat that are found in a substantial quantity. Limestone and dolomites are also found in huge quantities in Estonia.

The maximum reserves of oil shale of Estonia are available in the north eastern part of the place. The reserve covers an approximate area of about 1,830 square kilometers. Out of the total deposit of 5.9 billion tons of oil shale, the industrial deposits have a share of 3.8 billion tons. The other Estonia mineral resources also include sand and gravel as well as sapropel, clay and sea mud.

There is a mineral resource department in Estonia that is engaged in the survey of the various mineral resources available in Estonia. This department is also known by the name of the Geological Survey of Estonia.
