Estonia Agriculture constitutes 3.4 percent of the total GDP, where the annual growth rate of the GDP is 10%.
Estonia Agriculture also contributes 11% of the total labor force by occupation of the country. Estonian Agriculture is presently under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture. The Ministry of Agriculture in Estonia also provides agricultural education, research, training, and prepares relevant draft legislation. The Estonia agriculture consisted of the native peasants, who used to work in large feudal-type estates that were held by various ethnic German landlords until the 1920s.
The chief areas of activity of the Ministry of Agriculture controlling the Estonia Agriculture include:
- Realization and drafting of the national agricultural development plans and the implementation of corresponding measures,
- Regulation of various activities related to the processing of different agricultural products,
- Regulation of the agricultural market,
- National stockpiles of basic grain seed and food grains,
- Food supervision and control,
- Plant and animal breeding, plant protection, veterinary medicine and
- Land improvement.
The aim of the ECAC or the Estonian Chamber of Agriculture and Commerce, is to value the products of agriculture in Estonia and food in foreign as well as the domestic markets; to support trading of agricultural produces and food in those markets; to support cooperation between Estonian farmers and food processors and to disseminate the necessary information and to represent its members.
