Eritrea public holidays are decided on the basis of the dates of the religions followed in the country as well as certain other secular norms observed by the citizens. Basically, the Eritrean population is mostly either Muslims or Christians. The Christians in Eritrea belong to the Roman Catholic Church, the Orthodox Church as well as the Lutheran Protestant sect. The Muslims of Eritrea are mostly based in the coastal regions and the lowlands while the Christian Eritreans dwell mostly in the higher plateau region. Though there is significant number of people who still stick to their traditional religions and worship the traditional Gods, the public holidays of Eritrea are not decided by the minority celebrations.
