Assab

Assab, with its unique beauty and unspoilt charm, has become one of the major tourist destinations of Eritrea. It is in fact one of the most important ports of the country. The key reason behind the increasing popularity of the place is its advantageous geographic location.

It is closely situated beside the Bab el Mandeb straits. Presently it is considered to be a modern port that has an oil refinery.

This alluring town of Eritrea is divided into three parts: Assab Seghir (on the shoreline), Assab Kebir (in the central part) and the Campo Sudan (the erstwhile domain of the residents of Ethiopia). There are around 30 islands in the Assab Bay. The city also comprises copious salt flats surrounding it and these are probably the best places that demand a visit.

As the days passing by it is almost succumbing to mass tourism and as result plenty of quality hotels and restaurants are constructed. So if you are planning a trip to Assab don't give a second thought to rush to the place.

There is nothing wrong if, one calls it a land of black volcanic mountains. The place is also highly accessible and no one faces any trouble to reach this holiday hub of Eritrea.
