Eritrean women are an integral part of the society of Eritrea. Women in the Eritrean family take care of the home and hearth. Women in Eritrea work along with the male members of the family. But according to traditional custom of the society, they are supposed to do most of the household works. They are also assigned with the duty to rear children.
Treatments towards women are reflective of the society and culture of Eritrea. Women in Eritrean homes cook and prepare meals for the members of the family. Sometimes the male members of the household help the women to perform the household chores. But it is with time that the social scenario in Eritrea is changing. Men often help out with the works like cleaning dishes and keeping the household clean. Nowadays, Eritrean women also step out of the home to work outside.
The total population in Eritrea according to the census of 2005 is 4,561,500. The ratio of men per women in the country is 0.99. With the changing scenario, the decisions of the women are also given importance in Eritrea. Certain measures are adopted by the government of Eritrea to improve the status of women in the society.
