The original wordings of the Eritrea national anthem are done in Tigriniya language. This language is a mixture of the classic Latin language and the Ethiopic scripts.
TRANSLATION OF THE ERITREA NATIONAL ANTHEM IN ENGLISH
Ertra, Ertra, Ertra,
The barbarian enemy humiliatingly defeated
And martyrdom has payed for freedom
Decades of devotion for purpose
Your name became challenger, miraculous
Ertra, comfort for the oppressed
Proved that truth can win after all
Ertra, Ertra
A sovereign state on earth afteral
Dedication that led to liberation
Will buildup and make her green
We shall honor her with progress
We have a word to her to embellish
Ertra, Ertra
A sovereign state on earth afteral
Eritrea has a long history with the earliest evidence of human dwelling in the place dating back to 8 million BC, when the ancestors of modern day humans, the Pygmoid, Cushitic, Nilotic and Semitic were the dwellers of the place. The place was for long a virgin land till the recent 19th century invasions. First it was the Italian rule, then the British imperialism and lastly the long struggle with neighboring Ethiopia after which Eritrea regained its individual identity. The period of struggle has given Eritrea a new identity and confidence, the proof of which is evident in the Eritrea Anthem.
