Agriculture is one of the most important economic sectors of the country of Eritrea. Agriculture in Eritrea is also a primary profession for about three quarter of the total population of the country. In Eritrea there are about 966,000 acres of landmasses that are suitable for farming. 4,9,000 acres of land is used for cultivation. Agriculture plays a crucial role in the business and economy of Eritrea.
Rainfall in Eritrea is very little and farmers have to suffer due to lack of proper rainfall during the season of sowing of crops. Thus agriculture in Eritrea is highly dependent on availability of rainfall. But with the growing population in the country, there had been a dearth of sufficient amount of food crop in the recent past years.
To meet the insufficiency of food crop, Government of Eritrea has adopted certain measures. Private markets have been established in the country to handle the agricultural crops. Certain natural calamities like drought and other manmade causes like deforestation and war in the country have made majority of the population to suffer in Eritrea.

Other than the food crops, vegetables, different pulses, linseed and fruits also grow in Eritrea. And gradually agricultural activities in Eritrea are improving. The change in the pattern of
