El Salvador is the smallest country of Central America. It lies in the Pacific coast. El Salvador Transport comprises mainly of railways, waterways, roadways and airways. These types of transportation system have been developed for the convenience of travelers.
Railways in El Salvador:
In October, 2002 the rail transportation system was held in suspension. At present only shuttle passenger trains run between Soyapango and San Salvador.
The national railway corporation in El Salvador is FENADESAL, which is a part of CEPA. These lines were connected to some of the main cities like Santa Ana, Sonsonate, San Salvador, Zacatecoluca and Soyapango. At one time it was connected with railroads of Guatemala, Anguiatu.
In the country the first railway line was established between Acajutla port and Sonsonate on June 4, 1882. Many other lines were opened to link San Salvador, Santa Ana and other parts of El Salvador. At the beginning some of the network was managed by Salvador Railway Company Limited, which was later nationalized and assigned a new name ' FES'.
Highways in El Salvador:
Highways of El Salvador are spread up to 10,029 km, out of which, 1,986 km is paved and 8,043 km is unpaved. The main vehicles that traverse through these highways are cars, micro buses and buses. By car visitors can travel to El Salvador through Pan American Highways. By bus visitors can travel to different parts of the country. The fares of domestic buses are relatively cheap ($2 to $3).

The El Salvador International Airport in Comalapa is the main international airport of the country. In El Salvador there are 4 airports with paved runway and 70 airports with unpaved runways. There are many harbors and ports in different parts of the country. Through these ports travelers can easily reach their destination. Some of these include La Libertad, Acajutla, La Union, Puerto El Triunfo and Puerto Cutuco.
