San Salvador Volcano has a record of erupting for more than 70,000 years. The historical observations date back to 500 years. Since the early 1500s, there were only three eruptions, which consisted of a series of small explosions. However last eruption of San Salvador Volcano in El Salvador had occurred in June 1917 and this eruption, which also caused earthquakes had destroyed a large part of the city of San Salvador. The lava, which came out during the last eruption is still seen at the west side of the volcano, for which there is no vegetation still now. As the volcano did not erupt for quite a long time now, it is called dormant.
