El Salvador is located by the Pacific ring of fire as a result earthquakes and volcanic eruptions are very frequent here. El Salvador Volcanoes had created an great impact in the country. The most devastating volcanic eruptions occurred on October 1, 2005, as llamatepec volcano ejected out mass of rocks and ash which caused two deaths in the local villages. Ilopango Caldera: Ilopanga Caldera or volcanic crater was formed due to the Tierra Blanca eruption in 260 AD. It is an elongated volcanic crater. It has its boundary to the north and south along the graben faults parallel to to the chain of volcanoes by El Salvador and some parts of Nicaragua and Guatemala.
Coatepeque Caldera: It is a part of the volcano chain that resulted from the Caribbean and Cocos subduction. This caldera is situated astraddle between El Salvador and the eastern part of Guatemala.
San Salvador Volcano: This volcano had erupted many times in the past 70,000 years. It is one of the volcanoes by the volcanic curve of the country. The volume of San Salvador volcano is 110 cubic kms. This volcano is made up of the leftovers of many volcanic centers. These left overs are known by different names. In the center of this volcano lies a big circular shaped crater, which is called El Boqueron, which rises to an height of 1,890 meters. El Picacho and El Jabali are the other two leftovers.
San Vicente volcano: It is also known as Chichontepec. It is situated in the eastern part of San Salvador. Its volume is 130 cubic kms. It can rise to an height of 2,180 meters.
San Miguel volcano: It is also known as Chaparrastique. It lies in the in the eastern side of El Salvador.
This Volcano can rise to an height of 2,130 meters. It is one of the active volcanoes of the country. It had already erupted 29 times.
There are other volcanoes in El Salvador like Santa Ana.
