Armant

Armant is basically the old Greek settlement of Hermonthis. It is situated in the southern part of Thebes and was extended in area in the 18th Dynasty by constructing big temples. It is assumed that Cleopatra VII made this place the capital of the encircling
town and Armant contributed a lot during the beginning of the Christian epoch.

Like most other Egyptian cities, Armant too has a significant past. So, tourists must visit this place to know about the Egyptian history. In the ancient times, Armant had been the part of the Palladium Thebes that was considered to be a holy place under the Montu's protection. This specific area comprises Hermonthis, Medamud, North Karnak and Tod.

Basically, in its ancient times, the major attraction of Armant was said to be the temple of Cleopatra, much of which is demolished now. Today, the remaining material of it is used to construct a sugar refinery of the 19th century. However, the temple of God Montu is still found.

Here, Montu is symbolized by the Buchis bull that was entombed in the holy vaults of Bucheum, closely situated beside the temple of Montu.

With the course of time, the transportation and accommodation facilities in Armant are also developing.
