The society of Egypt is a delightful amalgamation of traditions and culture. Egyptian society comprises closely-knit families who believe in strong values and customs. The language spoken by most of the Egyptian people is Arabic, while Coptic is spoken by the Christian minorities.
Ancient Egypt Society
Ancient Egyptians were ruled by Pharaoh, who was considered as a powerful god. Besides the Pharaoh, the society comprised soldiers, merchants, nobles, peasants, priests, servants and slaves. Egyptian life centered mainly on the Nile valley because of its rich and fertile soil. The farmers cultivated the land to earn a living. The merchants were traders of cloth, gold, jewelries and papyrus. Egypt had an organized army, which had trained soldiers and troops. The weapons used by the army included axes, spears, shields etc. The priests were engaged in different kinds of religious activities. The men wore a kilt, while women used to drape themselves in long dresses in the ancient times.
In Egypt, Islam is the dominant religion that is practiced by most of the people. The Muslims fast all day long during Ramadan period. The fast is broken after sunset, amidst friends, relatives and families. Egyptian dishes are truly delicious. Egyptian music is a blend of African, Western and Arabic styles. Pop music has gained a lot of recognition in recent times. Discos, nightclubs and casinos have become an important part of the society of Egypt these days.
