Arabic Language

All over the world, many Muslim states treat Arabic language as their first language. There are around 221 million people in the world, who speak
this Semitic language. Arabic language originally came from Saudi Arabia in the pre-Islamic era. Arabic has also been used in Quran, which is the holy book of Islam.
The Arabic language consists of two types of dialects, classical Arabic and modern standard Arabic. Quran is written in classical Arabic, while the latter is used in textual writing, lectures, TV shows and so on.

Features of Arabic Language:

  • The structure of the Arabic language comprises 28 consonants and 3 vowels. In a sentence, the verb comes first, then the subject and finally the object. The use of verbs is irregular in sentences and excludes ‘is’ and ‘are’ from the present tense. For example ‘the king is good’ is spoken as ‘the king good’.
  • In both printed and hand written form, letters are always joined. Crossword puzzles are the only exceptions.
  • The writing starts from right to left in horizontal straight lines.
  • Arabic numerals are written from left to right and termed as Indian numbers in Arabic.
Colloquial Arabic is of 30 different types. Some of them are Egyptian, Moroccan, Saidi, Sudanese, North Levantine, Najdi, Algerian and Mesopotamian.
