Ancient Egyptian Religion

Ancient Egyptian Religion was based on polytheism, or the recognition of many gods. The Egyptians had more than 2000 gods and goddesses.
All these deities have special significance in the lives of Egyptians. There are also few examples of syncretic gods, who are created by merging two independent gods into one. Examples of such types include Re-Harakhty, Amon-Re and Ptah-Sokar.

Ancient Egyptian Religion is in fact a universe of religions, which often inspired each other. The merger of Amon and Re of the 2nd millennium was considered to be the highest theology of Egypt. Amon was said to be a hidden god controlling the wind, whereas Re was the sun power.
