During the Presidential rule of Nasser, the political scenario was different. Half of the total number of seats was kept for people of lower class. But this was not actually put into practice. The seats that were kept for the peasants were actually taken up by representatives or peasants of a more wealthy class. In 1979, a decision was taken to appoint woman representative for a third seat in the parliament. But this decision was taken back in 1980.
Parliament of Egypt is an integral part of the Government of Egypt. Gradual changes took place in the Egypt Parliament. In the parliament, the opposition parties also win seats. In 1970, the Second Chamber came into existence. The advisory committee in the Parliament was raised to the position of Consultative Council.
