Tomb of Kagemni

The Tomb of Kagemni can better be classified as a large mastaba. The tomb occupies a significant position on the northern side of Teti’s pyramid at Saqqara. It is one of the tombs belonging to the pharaohs of Dynasty VI.
Kagemni actually was a vizier and Chief justice at the court of King Teti and later was promoted to the overseer of the priests of Teti. Kagemni was also married to one of the daughters of Teti, which might explain why a tomb had been built for him. Karl Lepsius can be credited for excavating this ancient site first, but it was actually Jacques de Morgan who actually excavated the details at the site in the year 1893.

The Tomb of Kagemni can greatly be identified with a Mereruka and as such it hugely portrays the dead on all its walls. The names and profiles of the dead have also been explained in detail along with the representations.

Although there are 5 storerooms within the tomb, they are not as well preserved as the Mereruka. Depictions on the walls strangely feature the living persons occupied in activities related to fishing and the dead are seen to be standing on papyrus boats.
