Pyramid of Neferirkare

The Pyramid of Neferirkare is one of the greatest creations of Egyptian civilization. It is assumed that the pyramid of Neferirkare Kakai is the second pyramid to be constructed at the necropolis site at Abusir region. It is located to the southern part of the Giza plateau and is probably the tallest one among the pyramids of 5th Dynasty. Though it was incomplete at the time of Neferirkare Kakai's death, the pyramid reached a height of 70 meters. Still now, it stands with a height of 50 meters in spite of significant erosions in its external part.

The Pyramid of Neferirkare was probably been constructed as a step pyramid, which afterwards was transformed into a “true” pyramid by filling its steps with loose masonry.

It also comprises a corridor, made of limestone on the upper wall, which leads to the Egyptian burial chamber. Outside the pyramid, specifically in its courtyard, big wooden boats were buried.

Encircling the entire complex, there was a great mud brick wall, only a part of which still exists. Neferirkare’s pyramid is in fact one of the highly recommended attractions to be visited while traveling through Egypt. Without a visit to this pyramid, the Egypt would remain an incomplete one.
