The pyramid of Neferefre occupies the southern end of the pyramid site of Abusir. King Neferefre belonged to the dynasty V of the ancient Pharaohs in the Abusir region. He is also believed to be the fourth king of Dynasty V. He was a ruler who came to the throne early and also had to leave it early, due to untimely death in his 20's. Neferefre died while he was still in the process of completing his mortuary monument or pyramid. The task was later completed by his brother Niuserre. The pyramid was not known to have existed until 1974. The pyramid was excavated at Abusir by the Prague University Egyptology Institute in the same year.
The pyramid of Neferefre is the burial site of king Neferefre. Mysteriously, the base of the monument resembles a mastaba. Although a major part of the pyramid has now bowed to complete ruin, it is significant in Egyptian history because, some remains of canopic jars, bone and mummy have been excavated at the site. The excavations also revealed a limestone statue of Neferefre, embracing a Falcon. The pyramid can easily be reached via Cairo, which is just 12 kilometers away from the pyramid of Neferefre.
