The pyramid of Amenemhet II is the mortuary monument of king Amenemhet II of dynasty XII. He is more popular as the son of Senwosret I. The pyramid is located at present day Dahshur. This ancient pyramid is easily accessible because it is located to the north-east of Snefru's “Bent Pyramid”. Although, the present day site of the pyramid of Amenemhet II is nothing more than a mere ruin of piled mud-bricks, it has derived popularity as the “White Pyramid”. This name has probably been derived from its ancient structure that was carved out of white Tura limestone and a base of limestone chips.
In the ancient period, the pyramid of Amenemhet II was named “Amenemhet Provides”. The site was first excavated by Jacques de Morgan in 1894-95, but the base of the structure had never been fully excavated. A funerary temple was built on the eastern side of the pyramid, but archaeologists could only discover two pylon-like structures here. Hidden treasures were found behind this ancient pyramid. These treasures wee found in the burial sites of ancient Egyptian royalty like, Queen Khnemet, Princess Itweret, Princess Ita and Prince Amenemhetankh. An entrance chapel stands out as a distinct specialty of the pyramid of Amenemhet II.
