Mastaba Tomb of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep

The Mastaba Tomb of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep is located in the same block as Pyramid of Unas at Saqqara, Egypt. The tomb dates back to the mid 5th dynasty and was constructed either during the reign
of Niusserre or Menakauhor. The Mastaba Tomb of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep was discovered by the Archaeologist and Chief Inspector Mounir Basta in the year 1964, beneath the slope of Unas's tomb, which had to be dismantled in order to reach the spot.

The Mastaba Tomb of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep is popularly known as the "Tomb of Hairdressers" or as "The Tomb of Two Brothers". The tomb is meant for two officials, Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep. The word 'Niankhkhnum' means "life belongs to Khnum" and 'Khnumhotep' means "Khnum is satisfied". There are intricate paintings and some family photographs on the wall, which depicts the life of the two brothers and their wives. The structure of the Mastaba Tomb of Niankhkhnum and Khnumhotep is one of the most complicated tombs in the country.
