Bab-el Azad. The Mosque of sultan Hassan is situated to the west of this Mosque. Mahmud Pasha, a governor of Egypt in the Ottoman period laid the foundation of the mosque. At this point of time, Egypt was under the rule of Sultan Suleiman. The Mosque of Mahmud Pasha was completed in the year 1695.
